I open with this quote because this guide is not going to sugarcoat the process of getting to your best possible mental health and physical wellness. I’m not going to pretend there is a magic elixir or a pill that will make you suddenly lose weight, become fitter and healthier, because this is what the diet culture has been feeding women for too long. So what’s my purpose here? My aim is to give you new strategies and a mindset that actually works. How do I know that? Because for 15 years I suffered from eating disorders that affected my life at such deep levels and when I have finally managed to let go of my dis-empowering thoughts and beliefs and change the thoughts that created those beliefs, I simply recovered, after so many unsuccessful treatments that a still unreliable counselling and medical industry engaged me on.
Quitting an unhealthy lifestyle is always going to involve some struggle, but there are smart ways to go about dealing with this, and there are also bad routes that, if taken, will prolong feelings of despair and relapse for way longer than necessary. I don’t want you to take a year before you’re ready to get out there trying to become the best version of yourself. If the reason you were not living a healthy life in the first place is a negative body image, stop ignoring yourself and sabotage all the parts of your life that should be an essential support structure for your success.
